2. Figure out when the problem began
When did you first start to stifle your feelings, or to feel anxious? Have you allowed yourself to let external events and people alter the way you feel about yourself and the world? Are you living a fear-based life?
3. Face your problems head on
Bringing into consciousness the underlying reasons for your overeating is the first step towards change. You then have to affirm to yourself that a second helping or piece of cake is not going to make you feel better. Eating when you are not hungry to fulfill another need is something you taught yourself, and the idea that it will make you feel better has become ingrained.
In order to break this cycle, you will need to step out of your comfort zone and confront your feelings when you feel like overeating. While scary and unpleasant at first, you will soon reap the benefits of being in control of what you eat and when.
